Tokyo Bon Odori

Bon Odori is a dance performed in summer time in Japan. In Japanese religion, all the ancestors visit their descendants in the middle of August (July in Tokyo), Bon Odori is a welcome dance for them. In August, there are many Bon Odori Matsuri where you can enjoy dancing Bon Odori everywhere in Japan. There are 1,000s of Bon Odori because every towns in Japan has their original Ondo (a song for Bon Odori).

Mitama Matsuri

Travel Information

Mitama Matsuri (みたままつり) is one of the popular summer festival in Tokyo. It happens at Yasukuni Shrine in the middle of July, which is Obon in Tokyo. There are over 30,000 Chochin, Japanese Lanterns, decorated every year. There are many events and food stands in this festival. Especially, Bon Odori is the earliest one in Tokyo.

Inside of the area of Shrine, you are not allow to eat and drink alcohol.
The lanterns will light after 18:00 to 21:30.
