Hakone Shrine (箱根神社) is one of the main feature of Hakone, Kanagawa Pref. Legend said, it was established in the period of 5th Emperor Kosho (2,400 years ago). In Nara Period (8th century), Priest Mangan built temple and enshrined Shansho Gongen. At the top of Mt. Komagatake, there is a sacred deep shrine of Hakone Shrine. In Kamakura period, Minamoto no Yoritomo, first Shogun of Bushi, highly respected this shrine. During the Edo period, because Hakone is an important on Tokaido road, many people worship this shrine for their travel safety. Today, it is still very popular shrine in Japan.

Hakone Shrine

Enshrines: Hakone Okami, Niniginomikoto, Hikohohodeminomikoto, Konohanasakuyahimenomikoto.

Hakone Shrine has been highly respected as the guardian of Kanto Region, even today, people worship for safe travel, self achievement, and opening luck. The record of the shrine said, it was established in the time of 5th emperor Kosho (about 2,400 years ago). Mt. Hakone was considered as sacred mountain of God. In Nara period, Priest Mangan built temple and enshrines Hakone Sansho Gongen, and he combined local religion and buddhism and established a temple. In Heian period, Tokaido road was constructed, and because Hakone is located on the border of Kanto Region, many people prayed their safe travel.

In Kamakura period, the first Bushi Shogun, Minamoto no Yoritomo respected this shrine. Therefore, all Bushi and Samurai highly respected this temple. Lately, it became shrine.
