Ishiteji Temple (石手寺) is 51st temple of Ohenro located in Matsuyama, Ehime. It is Shingon Buddhism Temple established in 729 by Priest Gyoki. Because of its history, there are many historic buildings in Ishiteji. Especially, Niomon gate is registered as the national treasure. Ishiteji give one star value in the Michelin Guide.

Ishiteji Temple

Ishiteji is Shingon Buddhism Temple located in Matsuyama, Ehime. It is 51st temple of Ohenro, 88 worshipping temples in Shikoku.

It was established in 729 by Priest Gyoki. In 813, Priest Kukai visited this temple and change the style from Soto to Shingon.

From Heian period to Muromachi period, this temple flourished greatly and built many beautiful temple. Some of them had been lost during Sengoku period, but many great buildings are still remains.

-Niomon Gate-
National Treasure built in 1318. Legend said, Nio Statues were made by Tankei, the student of Unkei.

-Three Stories Pagoda-
National cultural Asset.

-Bell Tower-
National cultural Asset.

-Main Hall-
National cultural Asset. Also built in 14th century.

-Kishibojin Temple-
National cultural Asset. Legend said, if you bring one stone from here and write baby's name on the stone, then you will have a baby. After you have a baby. You will bring two stones back to this temple.
