Originally, Kinugawa Onsen was called Taki Onsen. It was found in 1752 on the westside of Kinu river and because it was in the territory of Nikko Temples, only Monks were allow to use Onsen. In the Meiji Era Taki Onsen was open for public and they found another Onsen on the eastside of Kinu river. Around the beginning of Showa Era, people start combining two Onsen and call them Kinugawa Onsen.
There are many Onsen Hotels which open their Onsen for travelers. There is also a public Onsen, which cost 500 yen, and many free Ashi-yu and Te-yu, food and hand Onsen.
Nature of Kinu river is very beautiful, especially, Ryuo Valley has great hiking course with waterfalls. In Fall, you can enjoy beautiful Autumn leaves. Also, Kinugawa Onsei is surrounded by the mountain, you can enjoy great hiking and even it has the Ropeway to reach the top of mountain.
