Detailed Travel Guide

Ota-juku
Ota-juku, the 51st post station on the Nakasendo Road, is home to one of Nakasendo's "three hardest places to cross" called the "Ota-no-Watashi." It greatly flourished because of the face that it acted as the intersecting point with both the Hida Road and the Gujo Road. The "Old Ota-juku Waki-Honjin (Secondary Hotel for Daimyo) and Current Hayashi House," a nationally designated important cultural asset, the "Front Gate of the Old Ota-Juku Honjin (The main Hotel)," and the two "masugata" are still seen standing to this day and help preserve the traditional post-town atmosphere.

In the exhibition room of the Ota-Juku Nakasendo Hall, one can learn about the history and culture of Ota-Juku.
