Takamatsu Castle (高松城) is a seaside castle located in Takamatsu, Kagawa. It was built in 1590 by Ikuma Chikamasa. It was used to be the first and largest water castle in Japan. The moat of this castle drew from sea. It was abandoned in 1869. Some of original Keeps, stone walls and gates remains. Currently, the Japanese style garden is installed at Honmaru, the main bailey. The garden is called Tamamo park. It is chosen as 100 best Japanese castles.

Tourist Info.
Admission: 200 yen for adult. 100 for under Junior. There is a group discount from 20 persons.
Open: Mostly from the Sunrise to Sunset.

Takamatsu Castle

Type: Water Floating.
Built in: 1590 by Ikuma Masachika.
Class: Ruins

This castle is one of the three major water floating castle. The moats of this castle was drawn from the sea water. Some of the moats are used as ports where battleships can stay. This design of water floating castle was the first approach in the Japanese castle. The structure was designed by Kuroda Josui.
