Takaoka Castle is a flatland castle located in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. It was constructed in 1605 by 1st lord of Kaga comain, Maeda Toshinaga. He used this castle as his retirement castle. After the Seige of Osaka and the fall of Toyotomi clan, this castle was ordered to destory. However, Toshitane, the son of Toshinaga kept this castle as the fortress.
It was burnt down in 1821. Today, the moats and baileys are remaining. It is registered as the national historic site and 100 best castles in Japan.
In Spring, it has a beautiful Sakura and this castle is chosen as one of 100 best Sakura Spots.
