Tsuyama Castle is a hilltop castle built in the middle of 14th century. Original structure was built by Yamana clan, but it was abandoned during Sengoku period.
In 1603, Mori Tadamasa became the castle lord of Tsuyama and built current structure of the castle and its castle town. He spent 13 years, and built one the biggest castle in Japan at that time. There were over 80 yagura and gates and 4 layers 5 stories Tenshukaku on the top of mountain. Mori clan was finished in the end of 17th century and Matsudaira clan from Echizen became the lord of Tsuyama.
Today, many stone walls and the baileys reimain. In 2005, Bitchu Yagura was reconstructed. It is also very famous Sakura and Azalea spots in Japan.
