Mt. Akagi

Travel Information

Mt. Akagi (赤城山) is all inclusive term for multiple volcanos in the center of Gunma. There is no mountain named Akagi. However, the mountains around caldera lake are called Mt. Akagi. Mt. Akagi is one of the 100 best mountains and 100 best landscape of Japan. Caldera lake is located 1300 m of sea level and surrounded by the mountains. It has great autumn tint in this mountain. It starts in the middle of October. There are many hiking courses for those mountains.

There is visitors center and hotels. You can enjoy sky in the winter.

Mt. Akagi

The last eruption was over 20,000 years ago. So, it is not active volcano. Mt. Akagi has several moutains, Mt. Kurobi (1828m), Mt. Komagadake (1685m), Mt. Jizodake (1674m), Mt. Choushichiro (1579m) and Mt. Nabemawari (1332), and 2 lakes, Lake Onuma and Lake Kakumanbuchi.

There is many travel spots in Mt. Akagi. Sky is one of the major attraction in Mt. Akagi. Many Japanese famous sky players are trained in Mt. Akagi. You can have great view of the top of the mountain.

In the October, you can enjoy great autumn tint in this mountain.

There are many hot spring "Onsen" in Mt. Akagi.
