Hida Furukawa (飛騨古川) is an Edo style town located in northern Gifu Prefecture. It is one of the most popular travel spots in Gifu. There are many traditional houses. Especially, white wall walk along Seto River is one of the most famous view in Gifu. These traditional houses has very unique features in this area. Because of this beautiful scenery, Hida-Furukawa is Preserved Area with Traditional Houses.

Hida Furukawa

Hida area is famous for "Takumi"(Skilled carpenters and architectures). In Nara period, 7th century, Takumi had paid a big contribution for building the capital's architecture. The styles and techniques of Takumi are still alive; today which include bay windows, lattice doors, lattice windows and painted caves. Furukawa people are proud of their traditional architecture and build their houses to be in harmony with other.

Seto River is very small river running through the town of Hida-Furukawa. Along the side of Seto River, for 500m long, there are many white walls houses and Kura, Japanese style storage.
