Iwakiyama Shrine (岩木山神社) is one of the oldest shrines located Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture. It is the top of the shrine of Aomori Prefecture and highly respected by the people of Aomori. It enshrines Mt. Iwaki and the deep shrine is located on the top of Mt. Iwaki. This shrine was established in 780. The first Shogun, Sakanoue no Tamuramaro worshiped this shrine. There are many buildings that are registered as important properties. The arts of this shrine are considered as Nikko of Aomori.

Iwakiyama Shrine

Legend said, Iwakiyama Shrine was established in 780 when people built the shrine at the top of Mt. Iwaki. In 800, the first Shogun, Sakanoue no Tamuramaro visited this shrine and donated the new shrine on the top of Mt. Iwaki. In 1589, Mt. Iwaki erupted and lost many buildings. During the Edo period, this shrine became the protector of Tsugaru domain and the lord of Tsugaru donated many buildings and constructed most of the buildings today.
