Shomyo Falls

Travel Information

Shomyo Falls (称名滝) is the tallest Japanese waterfalls located in Tateyama, Toyama pref. It is 4-step waterfalls, and 350m high in total. From the early spring to the beginning of summer, Hannoki Falls appears right next to Shomyo Falls. Hannoki Falls is about 500m high which is the highest waterfall when it appears. The V-shape made by Shomyo Falls and Hannoki Falls is the best and most gorgeous view of waterfalls.

There is a parking and restroom.
The street closed on winter. Time to open the road is depended on how much snow this place has. Most likely it opens in the middle of May.
Road opens: from 6:00 to 19:00 July and August, and 7:00 to 18:00 in other month.

0. at Tateyama Station.
1. use bus to Shomyo falls (from May to early November) or use a taxi.

Shomyo Falls is designated as the national monument of nature.

Hannoki Falls is 497m high. Because it does not permanently appear, it is not considered as the tallest waterfalls in Japan. When there is many snowmelt water on the mountain, until early June, or right after the heavy rain, it appears.

It is also the best Koyo Spots in Autumn.
