Todaiji Temple was established in the 8th century. In 743, Emperor Shomu ordered to build a great Buddha because at that time, there are many disasters happening in Japan. It was completed in 758. The famous Buddhist priest Gyoki supported to built this great Buddha. It spent another 30 years finishing all the buildings to establish Todaiji Temple.

-Great Buddha-
The National Treasure. It is 14.7m tall and 70m round. The head was rebuilt in the Edo period around the early 18th century. The body was rebuilt in Kamakura Period 12th century. The basement still remains the original structure. It was built as the cure for the national disaster by the emperor Shomu.
