Nara Great Buddha (東大寺の大仏) of Todaiji is the most famous and popular great Buddha statue in Japan. It is the main symbol of Todaiji Temple. Todaiji Temple is one of the most famous and popular temples in Japan. It is located in Nara and is known as Great Buddha Temple. It is designated as the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The great Buddha was built in 752 by Emperor Shomu. The National Treasure. It is 14.7m tall and 70m round. The head was rebuilt in the Edo period around the early 18th century. The body was rebuilt in Kamakura Period 12th century. The basement still remains the original structure. It was built as the cure for the national disaster by the emperor Shomu.

Admission: Daibutsu & Museum. 1,000 yen for adults. 400 yen for kids.
Time: 7:30 to 17:30 (Apr. to Oct.) 8:00 to 17:00 (Nov. to Mar.)
There is parking and a restroom.

Nara Great Buddha
Todaiji Temple was established in the 8th century. In 743, Emperor Shomu ordered to build a great Buddha because at that time, there are many disasters happening in Japan. It was completed in 758. The famous Buddhist priest Gyoki supported to built this great Buddha. It spent another 30 years finishing all the buildings to establish Todaiji Temple.
