Yoshinogari Archaeological Site

Yoshinogari Archaeological Site (吉野ヶ里遺跡) is one of the largest historical remains in Japan. It is the ruins of the Settlements of Yayoi Period (500 B.C.E. to 300 A.C.E.). There are restored houses and buildings based on the excavations surveys conductes so far, they are working a reconstruction project which is set in the later half of the Yoshinogari Period (around 300 B.C.E.) when the settlement reached its peak. Today, it's open as the historical park that you can walk around Japan of the 2000 years ago.

There are parking and restroom.
Admission: 420 Yen for Adults, 80 Yen for under 15, and 200 Yen for Seniors.
There is a group discount.
Time: 9:00 to 17:00 (18:00 from 6/1 to 8/31)
There is free lotation bus in the park.

Access
0. at Saga Station.
1. use JR Nagasaki Line to Kanzaki Station.
2. walk north (14 min.)

Yoshinogari Archaeological Site
The Yoshinogari archaelogical site is an important cultural asset that has been designated as a special national historic site. In the development and the maintenance of the park, after excavation and examination of the archaeological remains, in order to preserve them against damage they are convered again with earth mounds, upon which replicas of archaelogical structures are built as well as frees being planted.

Reserch of the Yayoi Period Yoshinogari settlement
Experts in the fields of ancient architecture, archaeology, and life culture, etc... examine and infer the status of the settlment, buildings and thepeople of Yoshinogari in the Yayoi Period.

South Inner Enclosure
Includes 4 watchtower and the kind's residence. In this enclosure, 20 buildings have been reconstructed.

North Inner Enclosure
The sacred zone of Yoshinogari. This area was used to conduct the affairs of governing the settlement.
There are nine buildings restored. The Ceremonial Hall is the most important facility to administer the festivals in Yoshinogari. Leaders discussed important issues as well. The highest-ranking priest offered prayer to the spirits of the ancestors here.

North Burial Mound
The graves of 2100 years old Kings and other important people. 14 burial jars have been excavated from the burial mound.

South Village
This is the area where common people called Geko lived. The area features 27 reconstructed buildings, including pit dwellings and raised-bloor buildings.
