Kaikoen (懐古園) is a ruin of Japanese castle located in Komoro, Nagano pref. It is one of 100 best Japanese castles. Originally, it was constructed by Yamamoto Kansuke. Then, Sengoku Hidehisa finished it. This castle is very unique because it is located lower than castle town. Many famous poets like Shimazaki Toson visit here and wrote a poem. It is also very famous Sakura spot in Nagano.

There is parking and restroom.
Admission: 500 yen for all museum. 200 yen for kids.
Time: 8:30 to 17:00
From December to middle of March, Wednesday is closed.

Komoro Castle, a.k.a Kaikoen, is a hilltop castle located in Komoro, Nagano prefecture. It is very unique castle because it is built at the bottom of a valley, its castle town is located upper position which is very rare.

Komoro castle was built by Yamamoto Kansuke when Shingen conquered this area during 16th century. In Edo period, Sengoku Hidehisa became the castle lord of Komoro, and he constructed Otemon Gate and current structures. Otemon is still remains after though many years. Also, dry moats, stone walls and Sannomon gate are preserved in original condition.
