During the Edo period, Christianity in Japan was highly prohibited by Shogun. The Christians in Nagasaki had been hidden and quietly prayed without priest all throught time in Edo Period. After Edo period was over, and when Christian priest Louis visited Nagasaki, all of the hidden Japanese Chrisitians gathered to him and told their story. Then, they built this church for the cerebration of returning the Christianity in Japan.
It has a beautiful the Gothic Archiecture ceiling and staind glasses. Each stained glasses take the sun light and create arts of the light.
The Virgin Mary statue was given by Frence in 1865.
