Zuiryuji Temple

Zuiryuji (瑞龍寺) is Soto Buddhism temple (Zen Temple) and the national treasure temple located in Takaoka, Toyama Pref. It was established in 1644 by Lord of Kaga, Maeda Toshinaga for his brother. There are many buildings are registered as the national treasure of Japan. Entire site of the temple is designed as the human body and the solemnity is like a castle. Because of the historic value and the excellent buildings, it is one of the most popular tourist spots in Toyama.

Visitor's Info.
There are parking and restroom.
Admission: 500 yen for adult, 200 yen for Junior and High, 100 for elementary school.
There is a group discount.
Time: 9:00 to 16:30 (Dec 10 to Jan 31 close at 16:00) Last entry is 30 min. before the closing time.

Zuiryuji Temple
Zuiryuji temple belongs to the Soto sect (Zen style) of Japanese Buddhism. This temple was built by Toshitsune Maeda 360 years ago, and it consists of 7 buildings, which is thought to be like a human body. Sanmon, Butsuden and Hatto have been designated as National Treasures. It is the one of the best Edo period Zen Buddhism temple architecture.

Butsuden especially shows a great Zen style of building; the techniques of architecture and carvings are easily recognized for their high quality. Besides this roof was made of lead, which is quite rare in Japan. It was thought that the roof could be used for the bullets in case of war and that the temple could be used for protection instead of the castle.
The same and only structure of Ishikawa gate of Kanazawa Castle.
Butsuden especially shows a great Zen style of building.
