Yaegaki Shrine is one of the oldest shrine located in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. This shrine appears in Japanese Myth, Kojiki. Legend said, when Susano no Mikoto, the brother of Amaterasu, defeats Yamata no Orochi, the 8 head dragon, he hides the princess Inada at the grove located at the behind of this shrine. Yaegaki means 8 layers of moats. He built those moats to protect the princess Inada.

After he defeated Yamata no Orochi, Susano no Mikoto married the princess Inada. Since then, this shine had been known as the best matchmaking shrine. Their marriage is the first married couple in Japan.

Legend said, when the princess stayed at this place, she used this water of the pond for her living and also used it as the mirror.
